Landioso has been here in NZ for just on three years now, and has made a huge impact on both the breeding and competition scenes. He has served a full book of mares each season, plus competed in Grand Prix dressage competitions around the country.  He has an army of supporters and admirers who love to watch his expressive flying changes and passage.  Olympic judge Stephen Clarke stated he was a horse of real European quality when he judged him at the 2006 Taupo CDI-W.

His competition success has been well publicised, with wins in many Grand Prix level classes throughout the North and South Island.  His biggest success to date was winning NZ’s most prestigious dressage prize, the Burkner Medal.  In doing so he scored one of the country’s highest ever marks in a Grand Prix Freestyle with over 68%.  Landioso was short-listed for the Athens Olympics on his arrival in NZ and on a recent trip to Australia he was awarded his FEI Certificate of Capability to allow him to compete at the 2006 World Equestrian Games back in his homeland of Germany.  And all this at 19 years of age!  It is a testament to his character and soundness that he is still competitive at the top level.

Landioso is a 169 cm dark bay Holsteiner stallion who is licensed for breeding in 7 different breeding areas of Germany including Oldenburg and Baden-Wurtemburg. He has been 100-day performance tested, and more importantly both he and his progeny are PROVEN in the competition arena.

Landioso was bred in the Holstein district in Germany and was sold then to the south of Germany as a two year old. It was here he did his 100-day test and became very popular with breeders. He trained in both jumping and dressage and was successful in both until his abundant talent as a dressage horse saw him specialise as a 6 year old. He trained through to Grand Prix with ease and competed at numerous big German shows with good success. At age 13 he was sold to a top Dutch rider to further pursue his competition career, and now has come to NZ to live out the rest of his days in lush Waikato pastures.

Our reasons for importing this stallion were two-fold. Firstly we believe the sport horse industry here needs an injection of top class European dressage and jumping bloodlines. Secondly we wanted a fantastic Grand Prix horse that Jody could compete internationally on.

Landioso’s family tree brings together three of the most important and influential Holsteiner bloodlines in the world today. These are Landgraf, Cor de la Bryere and Farnese. Between them these stallion have produced numerous world class dressage horses and showjumpers, with many world championship titles and Olympic medals to their credit.   Click here to view Landioso Pedigree.

We have an exciting video / DVD available of Landioso and some of his amazing progeny. This was taken at his home stud, Gestuet Birkof, in the South of Germany (www.gestuet-birkhof.com) and shows footage from their famous stallion parades. Landioso’s oldest progeny in Germany are already competing up to FEI levels in dressage. He has had both sons and daughters compete at the Bundeschampionate in dressage and jumping disciplines.

Landioso’s progeny are known in Germany as fantastic riding horses with good conformation, easy minds and expressive gaits. He crosses very well over thoroughbred mares which many warmblood stallions do not. His progeny are well suited to both dressage and jumping disciplines.  Landioso's highest ranked son is the Grand Prix dressage gelding LÉtoile who represented Italy at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.  You can view a photo of him on the news page.

Landioso has proved very fertile in his three breeding seasons here with approximately 80% of mares taking on first insemination. His first two crops of foals in NZ have been very highly regarded.  They have taken out foal championships at the Horse of The Year show and the North Island All Breeds Show.  The foals that have been put up for classification with the HHAANZ have all passed with flying colours, with premium foals from both warmblood and TB mares alike.  Some of his NZ progeny are shown on the Progeny Page

Landioso is a truly magnificent stallion with the bloodlines and performance ability to take NZ breeding to the next level. But don’t just take our word for it – take a look at our video / DVD of Landioso and his progeny in Germany and judge for yourself. You will see why Landioso has already caused a sensation in the breeding of warmblood horses in New Zealand.
