The following are a selection of the riding horses and broodmares we have at Karioi
Landioso: Holsteiner stallion imported from Germany. 19 years old and Grand Prix level dressage. He is the current national Grand Prix champion of New Zealand and has qualified for the 2006 World Equestrian Games. Read more about him on the Stallions at Stud pages.
Ramazotti: KWPN (Dutch Warmblood) stallion imported from Holland. 15 years old and was competing at Prix St Georges level before a serious injury finished his career as a riding horse. Read more about him on the Stallions at Stud pages.
Belmont Golden Boy: NZWB stallion. 19 years old and was the NZ national advanced dressage champion of NZ and advanced Horse of the Year before his retirement at age 17. He remains as sound and as honest as ever, enjoying his life as solely a stud stallion. Read more about him on the Stallions at Stud pages.
Corambo: Holsteiner gelding imported from Australia. 5 years of age. Corambo has won many dressage classes already and was 3rd overall in the 2006 Novice Horse of the Year title (only his second dressage outing of the season) He is a very confident and classy jumper and is currently competing at 1.10m level.
Belmont Ballerina: NZWB broodmare by Gruenhorn du Trichon (imp Belgium Warmblood) out of Gloss (a B grade SJ mare by Polaris Dutch Warmblood). Ballerina is our foundation broodmare and has served us well over the years. So far she has produced five lovely off-spring who all have her good looks and free paces. She is a well performed mare in-hand and won reserve champion Led Sporthorse at the Horse of the Year show when she was a three year old. Her foal from this season is the lovely filly Liberation (Landioso) who won her foal class at her only in-hand outing.
Spidery: Warmblood mare by Wesserwolf (imported Hanovarian) out of the Thoroughbred mare Haajii Doo who is by Haajii (famous for siring great eventers and jumpers such as Blyth Taits Chesterfield). Spidery is a lovely big black mare with superior movement and jump. She is currently in foal to Landioso.
Leilani: Oldenburger mare imported from USA. Laelani is by the famous Dutch sire Argus who is revered as the only stallion to have competed at international level in dressage and showjumping at the same time. Laelani adds an important mix of superior bloodlines. This year she is in foal to Landioso but will in future be put to Ramazotti for a double up of Abgar (xx) in the pedigree of the progeny.
Graffiti: NZ crossbred pinto mare by the stallion Batman. Graffiti is the mare that adds a splash of colour to our paddocks! We are breeding with her to experiment on how well the stallions cross over the heavy mares that are so readily available in NZ. And the possibility of coloured foals just adds to the excitement. He first foal is the aptly named Scribble who is by Ramazotti. As predicted Scribble has a more refined head, greater length of leg, and more quality paces than his mother. He should have the power and the scope for a successful showjumping career.
